Voting for Equality in Zambia
It's all very well having the right to vote, but what if you are physically prevented from doing this because the voting station is inaccessible to you?
Well, on 19th September 2011 the High Court of Zambia took a very important decision concerning the human rights of people in Zambia who had just this problem.
The ADEPt programme, in which POWER works with ZAFOD (Zambian Federation of Disability Organisations) to bring cases of discrimination against disabled people to court in the hope of creating legal precendence, helped ZAFOD's federal director to bring to the High Court a case against The Electoral Commission of Zambia, who are responsible for supervising the presidential elections.
