Helping the local association
The Lao Disabled People's Association (LDPA) was officially established in 2003. It exists to serve the needs of people with disabilities throughout Laos.
To achieve its goals, LDPA first invites disabled people to become members and make their needs known. They receive newsletters, pay a very small subscription, and the association aims to create and support services and actions to provide for those needs. Our grant from the UK's Department for International Development was successfully concluded in 2008 and you can download the evaluator's final report here
Moukda and Souvanhong pictured above, both had polio as children - they have now been supported in vocational training by LDPA so they can get good jobs.
To date, there are nearly 5,000 members over 11 of the country's 18 provinces.
